The 8 hour guided tour to the lake over the ocean is a must, when visiting the Faroe Islands. The location is famous for the optical illusion that strikes, when you can see the lake and the ocean in the same view. The tour begins in Tórshavn, the capital, were the bus picks you up at your hotel and the drives to the islands Vágoy is approx 40 minutes. During the drive, the guide will inform you about daily life on the islands while driving on mountain roads and through one subsea tunnel. This tour is a combination of guided sightseeing to villages like Gásadalur, Bøur & Sandavágur, where you will get opportunities to take photos of Drangarnir and Tindhólmur, and a hiking tour to Trælanýpan or the “Lake above the ocean”
What To Expect:
The day begins in the morning, when the bus picks you up at your hotel in Tórshavn, the capital. the journey takes you to the old mountain road out of Tórshavn, were we will make two photo stops, one of the Island of Koltur and the other of the only prison in the Faroe Islands, which has a breathtaking view. On Vágar island, we will visit 3 villages, Sandavágur, Bøur and Gásadalur and here you will get an insight into the Faroese culture and daily life on the islands. You will have plenty of opportunities to take photos of Drangarnir, Tindhómur and Múlafossur waterfall.
After the sightseeing, the journey goes to Miðvágur, were the hike begins. Here you will spend approx. 3 hours hiking by the biggest lake of the Faroe Islands, lake Leitisvatn. The peak of the hike, is the view point were you will see the “optical illusion” or the lake above the ocean.
