Slættaratindur (Highest Mountain in Faroe Islands)+Golden Circle Tour

A Medium + hike to the highest peak of the Faroe Islands, combined with a part of the Golden Circle tour to the villages of Saksun, Tjørnuvík & Fossá waterfall.

Overview:

A 9 hour trip, with pick up right at your hotel in the capital Tórshavn to the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands, Slættaratindur. After leaving the capital, you will sit down in a comfortable vehicle and enjoy the beautiful scenery while your tour guide explains about the surroundings. This tour is a combination of the Golden Circle tour, so you will visit the two villages Saksun and Tjørnuvík + the Fossá waterfall before the hike begins.
When the hike is finished, you will get the opportunity to take some photos of the two stone formations, the Witch and the Giant, before driving back to your hotel in Tórshavn.
What To Expect
The tour starts at 09.00 in the morning, and you will be picked up right at your hotel or designated pickup in Tórshavn the capital.
From Tórshavn, we will take the old mountain road towards the villages Saksun, Tjørnuvík and the waterfall Fossá.
Several Photo stops are made along the way, and you will get a great insight into the Faroese history and culture, as the tour guide explains along the way.
Arriving on Eiðisskarð the 1 hour Easy/Medium hike to the top begins. The starting point is called Eiðisskarð, and is 500 metres from the sea level, which means you will hike less than 400 metres to the 880 meter top on Slættaratindur.
On the top of the mountain, there will be served a packed lunch and beverages, which you can enjoy while sitting on the top of the Faroe Islands.

Itinerary

  • Pick up times –  8.15am to 9.00am
    • 9am – We depart from Tórshavn and take the old mountain road
    • 9.30am – Photo opportunities of Nordadalsskard and Sornfelli
    • 9.45am – Arrive in Kollafjørð for coffee
    • 10am – Depart for Saksun
    • 10.30am – Arriving at Saksun, were you will have half an hour to explore and take amazing photos.
    • 11am – Depart for Tjørnuvík village
    • 11.20am – Photo stop at the biggest waterfall in the Faroe islands – Fossá
    • 11.45am – Arriving in the village of Tjornuvik, with a half an hour to explore
    • 12.15pm – Depart from the village of Tjornuvik, and head towards Eiðisskarð and along the way we cross the Bridge between Streymoy and Eysturoy
    • 13.00pm – The local Tour guide greets you and the hike begins
    • 14.00pm – Arrive at the top, Packed lunch & beverages is served
    • 14.40pm – Head back down towards the starting point
    • 15,40pm – back in the bus and make our way back to Tórshavn, and along the way, there is a photo stop of the two rock formations, the “Witch and the Giant”
    • 16.50pm – Arrive in Tórshavn
